Going Home

This weekend I am going back home to northwest Indiana to visit my family. This is the first time that I am going back home since we started classes. I'm really excited to see everyone. I really miss my dog. I get to go to my old high school's football game. On Saturday I get to go shopping with my mom and grandma. Then later that day my sisters have a softball game and my dad coaches the team so I get to go watch that. I really miss being at home but I love it here at the same time. On Sunday my family and I are celebrating my boyfriend's nineteenth birthday with dinner and desert. I cannot wait to leave on Friday to go home! My dad is also finishing the remodeling on our house so I can't wait to go home and see it!

Always

Blink 182 is an amazing band and has always been a favorite of mine. My favorite song by them is "Always". The song just really touches me. "Always" has really good lyrics they are easy to follow and have a deep meaning behind them. Here's the video for you and the lyrics!

've been here before a few times
And I'm quite aware we're dying
And your hands they shake with goodbyes
And I'll take you back if you'd have me
So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always

And I'll miss your laugh your smile
I'll admit I'm wrong if you'd tell me
I'm so sick of fights I hate them
Lets start this again for real

So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready
So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always

I've been here before a few times
And I'm quite aware we're dying

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Always
Always

Sixteen Candles

Of all the movies out there my favorite movie of all time, is Sixteen Candles with Molly Ringewald. My mom introduced me to the movie when I was in middle school. The basic story line is that Sam's sister is getting married and it's her birthday and everybody forgets about Sam. In the movie Sam has a crush on a senior named Jake Ryan. However a nerdy freshman has a crush on her. He does a lot of embarrassing thing to try and get with her. Sam doesn't think Jake Ryan knows she exists because he has a beautiful girlfriend. It plays out at the end the everyone apologizes to Sam for forgetting her birthday and she gets the guy in the end. Long Duc Dong is one of the funniest characters in this movie. He is a foreign exchange student that lives with Sam's grandparents. He speaks very poor English and ends up getting an American girlfriend who is almost twice his size. My favorite part of the movie is when Long Duc Dong goes to a party at Jake Ryan's and has too much to drink and ends up in a tree in front of the house. Later on that night Jake walks out by the tree and Long Duc Dong jumps on him. It's a very funny movie if you like older movies. I highly recommend the movie to anyone who hasn't seen.

Ishmael Beah- A Memoir

Seeing Ishmael Beah speak on Tuesday night was the first author I had ever had the chance to listen speak about their book and about his experiences. One of the big things I learned from his speech was that he has such a strong emphasis on education and staying in school. Ishmael only attended two years of high school but was able to go to college and write a book about his experience in the war. The fact that he was able to accomplish that in itself was amazing. He wanted people to learn from his book which was his purpose for writing it. His speech showed me that things that we think are so bad in our daily lives aren't that bad. It could be way worse, you could be a child soldier. I'm amazed that he is able to speak so comfortably about his traumatic past in front of many audiences. It's astonishing that he is no longer bitter toward the government and is able to forgive them. Ishmael, from my point of view, is an amazing man and what he has accomplished since being in the war is awesome. I love that he wants to do go for the world and the people of Sierra Leone. Go Ishmael!

A Series of Unfortunate Events.

On Wednesday afternoon I received a phone call from my boyfriend who attends Indiana University. He told me he had just seen a kid get hit by a car outside his dorm. He later found out that the kid died in the accident. The car had pulled around the bus where the boy was crossing and hit him. The details my boyfriend told me are too vivid to talk about. Later that day he also tells me that one of the chemistry labs at IU had caught on fire. Talk about a weird day in Bloomington. Thursday was a normal day so lets fast forward to today, Friday. There was a fire in Edwards hall in Lafollette. My roomate had left for Purdue and saw the fire trucks and called to make sure I was ok. Two minutes later she calls again and tells me she and her boyfriend got into a car accident. In conclusion, this had been a very weird week. Also with it being September 11th I would like to thank those overseas fighting for our country.

My Memoir topic

For my memoir topic I have a couple ideas. One of them is to write about hearing the news of my fathers death. Depressing I know but I think it could make a really good paper. My other idea was to write about my grandma and a specific day with her that I'm very fond of. I think that either one would be a good topic for a memoir. I'm comfortable with writing about either topics although I'm having trouble choosing. Obviously writing about my grandma would be the happier of the two but everythings not always bright and cheery. If anyone would like to give me some input of what I should write my memoir on that would be great.

My First Week of College

My first week of college was probably the busiest first week of school that I have ever had. The first two days weren't bad, it was just professors talking about how they run their classes. Nothing big right? Well Wednesday rolls around and I find myself having more homework to do than I have time. I spent half of my weekend doing homework. If you ask me thats not my idea of fun. Basically I'm blogging about how much homework I have and according to all my friends seem to be the only one who has all this homework. All together though I'm getting used to having this much homework and I'm figuring out how to manage my time. I really liked my first week and I really enjoy the freedom I have. Not having my parents here is helping me to grow up and not be dependent on them.
